Methods and Training
Studio Romolo offers training in the following Long Art techniques and supporting creative approaches

Idea Building for Artists & Creatives
A unique multi disciplinary class to develop creative and productive work habits as well as how to turn those habits into creative projects. First part of the class takes place in the studio. The second part takes places in a historic Provincetown dune shack.

Portraiture Straccio Method Creative Clay
Working in natural clay from a live model, this course will explore the method and artistic possibilities of creating a portrait using the Renaissance Master’s Straccio Method of modeling exclusively taught at Studio Romolo Atelier

Figure Sculpture Straccio Method Creative Clay
Working in clay from a live model, this course will explore the method and artistic possibilities of working from the figure in natural clay, using the Renaissance Master’s Straccio Method of modeling exclusively taught at Studio Romolo Atelier

Sculpting in Direct Plaster
Building large sculpture directly in plaster, as seen in the movie “The Artist and the Model”: Direct Plaster allows the artist to create large scale ideas quickly and “rough out” concepts in three dimensions with great expressive results.

Sculpting in Direct Wax
My method of working directly in wax to produce works capable of being cast in bronze: Sculpting in wax offers an inexpensive, lightweight material to express fluid ideas in form. Direct wax lets the artist work in three dimensions with freedom without cumbersome armatures and avoids the costs of molds in bronze casting.

Creating Through Natural Drawing
Natural Drawing uses all natural materials and draws upon intuitive methods to allow the creation of vibrant and evocative drawings, regardless of the experience level.
Program Structure
Program Training
Transformational and Practical Training in Sculptural Creativity, Idea Building and Artistic Mastery. The Studio Romolo Method is a program designed to guide participants to create works of sculpture utilizing the sculptor’s process, from nature study to conceptual studio work. This method can train beginners and experienced artists alike in creative thinking and artistic invention.
SRA focuses on traditional methods to understand and confront the challenges of creating contemporary art. A wide range of art history and cultures are examined in support of hands-on workshops. All are welcome, beginners to experienced artists. The instruction is conducted at a collegiate level.
Program Methodology
This training uses time tested methods of the Italian Masters, applied to contemporary thinking about creativity and thought. All workshops use traditional methods and traditional heirloom materials, which are, in most cases, more natural and have fewer health side effects than synthetic modern materials. Traditional materials uniformly produce superior results, both in terms of
responsiveness and conservation. They do require more practice to master, but reward the artist with greater subtly of expression and richness of experience.
At Studio Romolo Atelier, you will learn more than the artistic skill, but also the material and technical foundation for that skill.
